The campaign ends on Thursday, 5/14 at 1pm Pacific. We’ve hit our initial funding goal, but there’s still a ways to go to get to the stretch goals. And as invariably happens, our number has gone down a bit as some folks have cancelled their pledges. This is the first time I've run one of these campaigns. It's been a lot of work, and a lot of fun, and a great exercise in honing one's message. One of the hardest parts has been spending every day feeling like I could be doing more. But I gather that's a universally true statement -- no matter what you're doing, you could always be doing more. Much harder is to do what you can, and be okay with that. This has been important for me to keep in mind becuase there have been a few things happening that have demanded my attention over the past couple of weeks. Not at all fun things. A Thunderwave of SadnessMy friend Liza Palmer passed away last week. I didn't know she was sick, and the news came right before the end. Liza was a brilliant writer, and an even more brilliant human. It still hurts to think about, so instead I'll just repost this photo from our pandemic-times zoom D&D game. Liza played Leona the Stubborn, and the entire campaign featured an ongoing firtation with Mertach the Grand. But we never got around to playing the last session of the campaign, so we'll never find out if the got together in the end. (FYI, the Flerken mention in the title of this newsletter is a reference to Captain Marvel, becuase Liza wrote an official prequel book, Higher Further Faster.) If you Google Liza's name, you'll find a lot posts quoting something she wrote. I have found myself coming back to this over and over again this week. Damn, Liza was smart. Oddly, none of the online sources have an citation for the quote. Was it in one of her books? Which one. Oh, no, I guess I'm going to have to read every single one of them to find out. And you should too. |
